Peña Ranked "Outstanding Business Officer"

Diana Pena, vice president of finance and administrative services for South Texas College, has been named the 2010 Outstanding Chief Business Officer for Region IV of the Community College Business Officers Association. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence and exceptional service as chief business officers.

Pena, who has been with the college since 1998, oversees a variety of crucial services that ensure the college runs and functions on a daily basis, including maintenance, facilities, security, human resources and all financial and business functions, excluding financial aid. She manages an annual budget of more than $130M.

“This is a well-deserved honor for someone who has one of the toughest jobs at the college,” said Dr. Shirley A. Reed, STC president. “Diana Pena has helped us ensure all our business processes and functions are sound and adhere to the highest ethical standards possible. She has led the prudent and fiscally-conservative budget development process all these years, which has helped STC maintain affordable tuition for our students, while providing a high level of service and quality in every function at the college.”

Pena was selected as the Region IV winner, which encompasses community colleges across Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas.

“I have to thank my staff for their support because without them, we would not be able to function with such a high level of effectiveness at STC,” Pena said of the award. “I am humbled by the recognition and reminded that every day is a new chance to make our procedures better and more transparent. In today’s economy, it’s more important than ever to make every penny count. I am dedicated to that mission.”
