GMS 8th Grade Girls Track Win District Title

Grulla Middle School 8th grade Girls Track Team win District Title!!! Congratulations to all the members on the team for this great feat. The girls took the title on March 30, 2011 in Roma with a total of 233 points. Team members include : Bottom Row: Coach Yadira Lopez, Mady Silguero, Celeste Elizondo, Yasmin Rangel, Neyla Pena, Vanessa Montes, Mireya Zarazua, Coach Enedelia Rios. Rio Grande City High School Guidance and Counseling Department holds 8th Grade Parent Meeting.  The meeting was geared at informing the parents of incoming freshmen about the course requirements for high school. They were also were made aware of the choices the students have available to them.  Mrs. Gloria Smith and Mrs. Azalia Villarreal (Guidance Counselors) and Mrs. Agueda Garza-Career (Technology Specialist) were on hand to facilitate the information given to parents.  Everyone was  given a folder with details on courses which included a four year graduation plan.  Information was disseminated on career paths and other pertinent information.  Mr. Adolfo Pena RGC High School (Principal) welcomed the parents and thanked them for the dedication to their children.  The guidance department will meet with students from Ringgold Middle School, Veterans Middle School and Immaculate Conception School during the month of April to assist them in scheduling  the courses for next year.   (RGCCISD Photo).

Lady Rattler Golfers Make History

Rio Grande City High School Lady Rattler Golfers made history during this year's golf season.  The golf team placed second at the 32-4A district meet held at Martin Valley Ranch Golf Course.  This was a first district tournament win for the girls.  The team also advanced to the Texas State Regional Golf Championships held at Pecan Valley Golf Club  in San Antonio, Texas held on  April 18th and 19th.  The girls team worked hard all season and it paid off. They were the only girls golf team to advance without a home course.  The team placed first in the Mission Invitational Golf Tournament and the Veterans Memorial Golf Invitational this past season.  Overall the girls placed no lower than second place in all of their 10 tournaments this season.  Lady Rattler Golf team members kneeling l to r are; Yessica Islas and Gabriella Villarreal. Their hard work and dedication has indeed paid off this season and they look forward to seeing a bright future for the RGCHS golf team for years to come.

Lady Rattlers B-Ball Teams Heads to San Antonio

Rio Grande City Lady Rattlers Basketball team recently had an opportunity to go see the San Antonio Spurs in action on Saturday, March 19, 2011. The Varsity, JV, and Freshmen girls basketball teams had fun watching the different plays the Spurs executed. Local 4H Club Hosts Summer Water Safety Program

 Rattler 4H Club recently held a Summer Water Safety Program at Falcon Lake. Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Wardens conducted the educational activity. Over thirty Starr county 4H club members attended the program. The Starr County 4H & Youth Development Program would like the thank our local Game Wardens (Dennis Gazaway, Ben Baker, Brandon West, Philip Spencer ) for their generous time and contribution towards the youth of Starr County. Grulla High Auto Collision Class Says "Thanks"

Grulla High School Auto Collision and Refinishing Class students would like thank the Rio Grande City CISD, Mr. Roel Gonzalez (Superintendent) and Dr. Pablo Martinez (Grulla High School Principal)  for the support that they have received for this program. The Career & Technical Education students have taken  field trips to local businesses that relate to the class such as Pueblo Tires, Auto Zone, and others.  

This hands-on training provides students with an advantage due to the observation and operational skills acquired while on the job. Students can make better assessments, acquire knowledge, and gain understanding from experiences like this. Expectations are a priority and students are ready for the challenge!

Local Org. Suggests; "Test Your Water Well"

Wells should be tested annually. Texas AgriLife Extension, Cooperative Extension Program, and Texas Mexico Border Coalition are sponsoring a water well screening day for area residents on Monday, May 02, 2011 at the Starr County Extension Office located at 500 N Britton Rio Grande City. Texas.   

This well screening day is designed to inform private water well owners and users on the condition of their well water of possible contamination from common contaminants.  These contaminants are fecal coliform, salinity and nitrate.
